At an early age, Cleave united with Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Pine Hill, Alabama.
In 1961, he graduated from Anne Manie High School. After graduation he moved to Flint, Michigan and in 1964 he relocated to Los Angeles, California. He was employed with Pioneer Flintkote Paper Co. as a machine operator and remained so until he became disabled.
Cleave enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, gardening, and maintaining a beautiful green lawn. He also loved to Barbecue and often said; “I make the best Barbecue in town.” He loved spending his summer vacation by traveling across country to visit family and friends.
In 1968, he met and married Ethel Patterson and to this union, two daughters were born, Kimberly and Angela. He was a faithful and loving husband to his wife, Ethel, for 47 years.
With his family by his bedside, Cleave departed this life from Earth to Glory on January 13, 2016.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Ethel; Two daughters, Kimberly Moore (Bobby) of Wesson, Mississippi; Angela Smith of Los Angeles, California. Two granddaughters: Akeiyah Smith (Jason), and Aleisha Pendleton, Hazlehurst, Mississippi. Two grandsons: Samuel Jamaar Pendleton (Neicole) of West Memphis, Arkansas and Bobby Juwan Moore of Wesson, Mississippi. Two great grandchildren: Jhaniya, and Ava Pendleton of West Memphis, Arkansas. Four sisters: Willia Mae Boggs of Tacoma, Washington, Daisy Davis (Earsell) of Mobile, Alabama, Carrie Kaiser and Rosetta Smith of Montgomery, Alabama. Six brothers-in-law, eight sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
