HENRY, Mr. Charles B. – age 75, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014 at St. John Hospital-Detroit, MI. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Christ The King Catholic Church, 1811 Seymour Ave. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Father Phil Schmitter officiating. Interment New Calvary Catholic Cemetery, G-4142 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Henry will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.
Mr. Charles Ben Henry transcended from life to his heavenly home on Sunday, October 12th, 2014 at St. John Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan. Charles was born March 2nd, 1939 in Crawford, Mississippi to the late Ollie and L.A. Henry. He was the 10th child of 11 children, and though he was next to the youngest of his siblings, he towered over them as their keeper. He was Baptist at an early age, attending St. Joseph Catholic Church in Meridian, Mississippi where he also attended school. Charles was employed by Flint Truck and Bus Local 598, retiring after 42 years in 2002. He held various positions including District and Shop Committee man, President of Brothers and Sisters of Labor, and Coordinator of the Joint Programs. Helping others and watching them succeed was a passion for Charles. He loved spending countless hours discussing politics and solving the world’s problems. Charles married the love of his life, Doris Roberts Henry on October 28th, 1989. They shared 25 wonderful years together traveling and spending months at a time in California with his brother, John. Charles continued to enjoy life in spite of his illness and many visits and stays in the hospital. He fought long and hard with his wife beside him. Charles will be missed by everyone who’s life he touched.
Mr. Charles B. Henry leaves to cherish his memory: devoted wife, Doris Henry; sons, Quentin Fitzgerald (Beonka) of Grand Blanc, MI and Rodrick (Lisa) Mclin of Mobile, AL; grandchildren, Charles, Quentin and Quatasha Fitzgerald, Kennedy Hull, all of Atlanta, GA; sister, Ollie Brown of Flint; brother, John L. Henry of San Bernardino, CA; brothers-in-law, Clyde and Billy Roberts of Brookhaven, MS; step-sisters, Willie Mae (Eugene) Johnson and Sweetie Beldford; stepbrother, Johnnie Humphrey; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie and L.A. Henry; 6 sisters, Sadie, Annie, Betty, Hattie, Lola, and Mary; 2 brothers, L.A. Henry, Jr. and Sam.
