A Brookhaven native died Sunday in a house fire at her Birmingham, Ala., residence, family members said.
The cause of the fire that killed Brookhaven native Sandra Calcote, 60, is still undetermined, said her daughter Kara Bondly, a Birmingham doctor.
“They haven’t really told us anything at all,” Bondly said.
It is believed that the fire started in the kitchen, she said. Calcote was alone in the home.
Calcote had been in Birmingham about six months, Bondly said. She moved to the city to be closer to her daughter, but traveled frequently between Birmingham and Brookhaven.
Calcote retired about 10 years ago from the Lincoln County School District as the child nutrition director, Bondly said. She was also a teacher at Eva Harris School for a number of years.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Nola Baptist Church in Sontag, Bondly said.
