Charles Hueston Stovall

Charles Hueston Stovall passed away on Monday, June2, 2008 after a long illness. Charles was born on Dec. 8, 1945 in Jayess, Miss. to Henry and Myrtle Stovall. In 1996, Charles had a stroke, which forced him into retirement as a teacher in the Madison Public Schools, where he worked from 1970 to 1997. While at Van Hise Middle (Velma Hamilton) and West High Schools, he taught industrial arts and was a Minority Service Coordinator. Charles received his undergrad degree from Jackson State University, Jackson, Miss. and his master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin in Platteville. Charles loved teaching children. Students all over the city still ask about and have very fun memories of taking classes with Mr. Stovall. He was an activist teacher union member with Madison Teachers Inc., Wisconsin Education Association, and the African American Educators Association. He loved his grandchildren dearly. They made his days brighter and his smiles frequent even though he was ill. Charles loved fishing, hunting camping, traveling, working with crafts/wood/carpentry, cooking and entertaining family and friends. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: two sons, Charles Chuma H. (Dawn) Stovall of Sun Prairie, Wis. and  Camara C. Henry (Keona) Stovall of Madison, Wis., four grandchildren; Eriana, Amara and Armani Stovall of Madison, Wis. and Tatum Stovall of Sun Prairie, Wis., a niece; Tomeka Jackson, of Summit, Miss, two nephews; Vern Jackson and Manuel (Shanita) Scott Jr., both of Summit, Miss. and a host of cousins, relatives and friends. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Stovall and Myrtle Brent Stovall; a brother, Henry Ray Stovall; three sisters, Shirley Ann Stovall Jackson, Brenda Stovall Lee and Willie Grace Stovall Scott; and brother-in-law, Billy Scott.
